In less than a week, next Tuesday, I am scheduled In less than a week, next Tuesday, I am scheduled to receive a kidney transplant, all thanks to the extreme generosity of a childhood friend as well as some complete strangers. My friend Julie is a match, but turns out her kidney is not quite my size, so we are going to be part of a paired exchange donation involving eight people. I’m beyond words extremely grateful and look forward to to the chance to feel good again. #gratitude #kidneytransplant #kidneypaireddonation

Today was a pretty big day. Back in June 2020, I g Today was a pretty big day. Back in June 2020, I got pretty sick with what ended up being identified as an autoimmune vasculitis (Microscopic Polyangiitis) that affected my lungs and kidneys. My lungs seem to have recovered well, but that was unfortunately not the same story with my kidneys. Today was my “evaluation day” at Virginia Mason Medical Center, as part of the work up for a possible kidney transplant. It was a full day with a team of professionals looking me over, inside and out, including drawing 22 vials of blood for lab work. I will find out in a few weeks whether I’ve been approved for transplant, and depending on the outcome could possibly begin the waiting game on the transplant list or looking for a possible live donor. I was quite nervous about today, but it turned out to be a good day. #shareyourspare
